Learning the many intricacies of horticulture can be intimidating and even discouraging. Like most things worthwhile, devoting a little time and effort can yield promising results. Now that you’ve found these tips, you will be more informed and can become a better gardener.

Your tool handles can double as measuring sticks. Handles of things such as rakes, hoes or shovels make excellent measuring instruments. Lay the handles onto the floor and place a measuring tape beside them. Use a permanent marker to label distances. This will allow you to have a ruler at your fingertips when you are working out in the garden.

TIP! It is important to do your homework so you choose plants that produce higher yields. Frequently, a hybrid that is able to deal with extreme temperatures will bring higher yields than the more traditional variety of a plant.

When winter arrives, you can save some plants by placing them in your home. It’s a good idea to save any expensive plants or those that will thrive in indoor heat. Carefully dig around the rootball and replant in an appropriate pot.

Use bulbs to ensure continuous flowers throughout the spring and summer. Bulbs are easy to grow and hearty, and they keep growing in years to come. Remember that different bulbs will bloom at all different times of the year, so if you are careful to choose the right bulbs, you will see blooms in the early spring, and have flowers all the way to late summer.

Grow some wheat grass or cat grass next to the plants your cat seems to prefer. You could also place something that will cause your cat to go away from your plants, such as citrus peels or mothballs.

TIP! It is a good idea to pre-soak your seeds in a dark environment overnight. Place your seeds in a container filled with water.

Make sure air can circulate around your plants, and keep leaves moisture-free. Moisture can be a magnet for disease and parasites on your plants. Fungi are a very common and irritating pest in the world of horticulture. It is possible to control fungi by using fungicide sprays. However, these sprays should be used before issues become apparent.

Do you want fresh mint leaves without having to worry about them growing too quickly? Stunt their growth a little by planting your mint into a garden container or large pot instead. The container can be planted in the ground, and it will still prevent the plant from dominating the garden.

Not as bad as you thought, correct? Just like anything else in life there is much to learn when it comes to horticulture. With a few basic tips, you can get off to a good start on your horticulture adventure. You should hopefully get what you can from these tips.
