Organic gardens have become very popular in recent years as people start to understand the consequences of corporate farming techniques. The tenets of holistic living require use of herbs and certain other plants, which need to be organic. See the piece that follows for several effective ideas for growing an organic garden.

Sod should be laid correctly. You want to prepare the soil before you lay down the sod. Remove weeds and break your soil until all the clumps are gone. Compact the soil lightly and firmly, and be sure to create a flat surface. Thoroughly moisten the soil. You want the sod laid down in staggered rows, and the joints to be offset from each other. Make sure the sod is firmly placed to ensure a surface that is sufficiently flat and even. Also, make sure to use soil to fill the areas where there are gaps in the sod. The sod needs to be watered daily for two weeks, by which time it will be rooted and ready to walk on.

Baking Soda

If mildew is forming on your plants, you should not purchase an expensive chemical. Plain water with a bit of liquid soap and baking soda will do the trick. Once every week, you should spray the mixture on your plants; the mildew will disappear shortly thereafter. No damage will occur to your plants, and the baking soda is mild and efficient.

The correct soil can make a big difference in how your garden grows. The soil that is already in your garden might need amending, depending on the particular plants that you want to grow. It is also possible to make an artificial area using only one type of soil.

TIP! If your soil is highly alkaline, try mixing used coffee grounds into the soil. Using coffee grounds is a less expensive way to make your soil more acidic than trying to replace your topsoil.

If you are going to be doing some horticulture, watch out for stink bugs, especially in the fall! This insect will gladly devour your tomatoes, beans, and peppers, as well as a variety of other fruits. If left uncontrolled, they can cause substantial damage in your garden, so make plans for how to protect your plants from these pests.

Do not cut your grass too short. If you allow your grass to grow a little longer, the roots will go down deeper into the dirt, helping the grass grow better and remain hydrated. The shorter the grass is, the shorter the roots are, which leads to a dry lawn.

The more organic gardening tips you are able to pick up, the easier gardening will eventually become for you. The tips in this article are just a jumping off point for you.
