There are many different reasons for adopting organic gardening methods. For example, some people prefer to use organic gardening to cultivate edibles for the dinner table. However, effort is required in order to effectively grow. You probably do not know how to go about growing an organic garden on your own.

A great gardening tip to use is to always select types of plants that are more likely to produce a high yield. In many cases, a disease-resistant or cold-tolerant hybrid will produce a higher yield than a traditional variety.

TIP! Try not to cause shock to your plants by gradually changing their conditions and temperature. Try placing them outside in sunlight for about an hour or maybe two the first day.

Plant perennials that are slug-proof. If slugs or snails find their favorite perennials in your garden, they’ll snack all night. When you wake up in the morning, there will be very little left of your plants. They often enjoy feeding on perennials with very smooth and tender leaves. Young plants are a special favorite of theirs. There are perennials that slugs do not want to eat, the ones that they hate have hairy leaves, or are unappealing to their taste. Several good choices include heuchera, campanula, achillea, and euphorbia.

Flower Garden

Plant a variety of flowers to keep your flower garden colorful and interesting. Annuals and biennials can add excitement and interest to your flower garden every season. These usually grow quickly, and provide an easy-to-change solution to making your flower beds bright and beautiful. They allow you to select different flowers from one year or season to the next. You can fill any spaces between shrubs and perennials when they are in the sun. Notable varieties include cosmos, rudbeckia, petunia, hollyhock, marigold and sunflower.

TIP! Using a shovel in clay soil is a lot of work, not only is the clay hard, but it will stick to the shovel and make it twice as hard to handle. To make your digging project easier, apply a coat of automobile wax to your shovel first and then buff it lightly.

Before actually putting plants into your garden, check the type and compostion of your soil. Consider getting a soil analysis and working on enrichment techniques for giving your garden a vibrant and healthy environment. It is worth having this information so that crops do not get ruined. Most Cooperative Extension offices provide this service.

When horticulture, be watchful of stink bugs, particularly in the fall. They like beans, peppers, tomatoes and many fruits. If you don’t take care of them, they can decimate your garden, so it’s best to do all you can to get rid of them.

If you want your garden to blossom with flowers throughout the spring and summer, plant some bulbs in it. Most people have no trouble successfully growing bulbs, and their flowers will return each and every year. Different bulbs will bloom during different time periods. Therefore, if you select your bulbs correctly, you could have blooms in your garden for all of spring and summer.

TIP! It may be helpful to let your plants begin their life in a pot and to transfer them to your garden when they’re seedlings. This insures that the plants will grow and thrive into adulthood.

So, as you have seen, it is true that organic gardening requires research, work, and effort to start growing your own organic plants. In addition, it’s true that you must be consistent if you want to see results. If you keep the tips provided here in mind, you can find your way to organic horticulture success. Enjoy your harvest!
