Chances are you have probably heard about or seen organic foods in your local grocery store. Distinguishing which foods are organic is really quite simple. They have different packaging and are more expensive. Use the tips offered here to learn more about organic gardening.

Healthy soil will also assist in your battle against pests. Healthy soil equals healthy plants and healthy plants can fight off diseases with ease. So if you want your garden to provide plants that are as healthy as possible, you need a good quality soil that contains few chemicals and that can accumulate salts over time.

Stink Bugs

When horticulture, be watchful of stink bugs, particularly in the fall. Stink bugs enjoy gardens, and are especially fond of fruit, tomatoes, beans and peppers. If kept unchecked they can certainly do a ton of a damage to your garden so you should do what you need to to reduce their population.

The best way to start a garden is from first principles: seeds. As a green-friendly gardener, you always want to use seeds to start your new plot. It is common for commercial plants to be packaged in plastic that is not commonly recycled, and therefore, it is better to use seeds or purchase plantings only from merchants who make use of organic packaging.

TIP! Regular weeding is essential to the health of any garden. Weeds and gardens do not mix; they will destroy your garden.

A wheelbarrow and kneeling bench or stool are smart investments for your garden. Gardening can take a toll on the knees, but a small ergonomic stool will be a comfortable solution. Gardening involves moving heavy objects and dirt, so a wheelbarrow makes for a wise investment.

Know the perfect time to harvest the vegetables in your garden. Every vegetable has a proper time to be picked in order to capture the perfect flavor. For example, baby peas and zucchini taste best when they are picked young. Yet, in reverse, tomatoes must wait for prime-ripeness before they are subject to being picked. So, find out the best time to harvest your vegetables.

If you’re growing plants indoors, keep your thermostat around 65 or 75 degrees daily. The temperature needs to remain steady and warm so the plants can grow. If this is a little too warm for your house, grow your organic plants under a heat lamp.

TIP! Do not mow your lawn close to the bottom. If you let your grass grow, the roots will go deeper and make your lawn more resistant to dryness.

There should be no rush when you are planting a seed. The first step is to moisturize the soil. Then, evenly spread the seeds according to the type of plant and how much room they require for good growth. The seeds should be buried to a depth that is equal to three times the diameter of the seeds. There are some seeds that require light to grow, so they must not be buried.

Growing your garden at home might not be the most convenient thing for you, but you will save a lot of money and always have the confidence that what you’re eating and feeding your family is as fresh and as healthy as possible. Use the tips you’ve learned here and get started on your garden today.
