This Weekend: Take Care of Your Kitchen’s Biggest Odor Offenders

Nothing says “c’mon let’s eat” like offensive smells in your kitchen. Kidding of course! Yet there are several spots that naturally get ickier than others, where gunk, dried liquids, and food bits combine to form a low-grade yet persistent maelstrom of malodor. This weekend, we’re going to take care of that.

This Weekend: Roll Up Your Sleeves, Because It’s Time For Some Major Elbow Grease

This weekend, we’re focusing on one of those seemingly minor details that actually makes a huge impact in your home. You might not be able to put a finger on it, but it means the difference between a space that feels distinctly dingy versus one that totally sparkles.

This Weekend: The Dreaded Task We All Have To Do Sooner or Later

It’s easy to neglect cleaning something that’s mostly shut away. The guest room closet and garage come readily to mind. But there’s another hidden area that’s all too often ignored because no one else sees it and because, frankly, it’s a total pain to clean. This weekend we’re not turning our backs, or shutting the door, any longer.

All during October, we’re tackling your home’s “scariest” tasks — the dirtiest, foulest, most dreaded jobs on your to-do list. For the next four weekends, get out your rubber gloves and get ready: we’ll all knock them out together.

We Tried These Bathroom Drain Snakes To Unclog a Sink & OMG The Hair — Apartment Therapy Test Lab

Snaking the drain is one of those nasty jobs that we put off, and just deal with a clogged or slow draining sink or tub because we don’t want to bother with calling the landlord, or figuring out how to do it ourselves. Like so many things, after we actually do it, we realize it’s just not a big deal and wish we’d done it sooner. It’s also satisfying —and gross.

This Weekend: Mindlessly Refresh Your Living Room For Free

This is one of those chores that experts say to do once a year or so, and maybe even more frequently if you have kids and/or pets. It’s not hard, and requires almost no brain power, so your mind is free to gather wool while you work. And once this weekend’s project is done, your entire room will feel brand new again.

This Weekend: Take 30 Minutes to Hide All Evidence of This Ugly Eyesore — Weekend Projects

99.9% of homes have these particularly annoying things that are both a physical nuisance, and also visually drag our living spaces down. We can’t get rid of them entirely, so instead tuck them away and pray they remain hidden out of sight. But time and time again — despite our silent pleas and crossed fingers— out they come again, creeping into the open. And man do they have a long reach! This weekend, spend half an hour on a more permanent solution, and never give them a second glance again.

This Weekend: How Long Has It Been Since You Cleaned These Three Things?

There are the things you clean regularly, and then there are the things…you don’t. Sometimes it’s because you dread it, and something it’s because they just don’t need attention all that often. Either way, it’s got to get done sometime, and this weekend might be the perfect time. Consider this your friendly nudge and reminder.
