Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch is Probably a New Game

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch is coming, and although it’s not a massive surprise, it’s arrival on Switch is still one that fans have been eagerly awaiting for some time now. We know who the developers are, as well as some confirmed characters and a release window – but the big question looming over everyone’s head right now: is Super Smash Bros. for Switch a port of Smash for Wii U, or an entirely new game?

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U released in 2014 and stopped receiving updates and DLC in 2016. So considering that Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is due for a sequel, a new entry in the franchise on Switch would make a lot of sense. Now, we know that Nintendo is no stranger to porting big Wii U games over to Switch—along with some bonus features—such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Pokken Tournament DX, the former of which also gained Splatoon 2 characters in its move to the new console. That said, we still think there’s good reason to believe that Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch will, in fact, be an entirely new entry for the series.

See First Screenshots of Valve’s Next Game, Artifact

Valve has finally revealed the first details about its upcoming Dota 2-themed card game, Artifact, and we’ve got a first look.

It’s an extremely unique take on the digital card game genre, with three lanes of play, hero cards that respawn on death, and items to buy and equip them with. Take a look at the gallery of screenshots below, along with some of the card art for the game.

We got our hands on Artifact today, so be sure to keep an eye on IGN for our first impressions and in the meantime here’s everything we know about it – including the fact that it has three new Dota 2 heroes.

Warhammer Vermintide 2 Review in Progress

There are few things quite as satisfying as the feeling of popping a ratman’s head like a grape with a giant war hammer. Or cutting that head clean off with an ax, or possibly unloading a full revolver clip into it, or just burning the whole thing to a crisp. The truth is, just about every one of the multitude of ways Warhammer Vermintide 2 gives you and your co-op team to kill your enemies is punchy, powerful, and a whole lot of fun.

I’ve been playing the pre-order beta of Vermintide 2 for the last week, as well as the closed beta before that, and I’m already enjoying it a lot – though I’m left wondering how long its randomized loot progression and relatively straightforward level design will keep me engaged. I’ve only had access to a total of six missions, so there’s still a whole lot I’ll be trying out in the full game for our final review, but here’s what I think of it so far.

Rainbow Six Siege: No ETA on Fix for Purchase Issues

Rainbow Six Siege players on multiple platforms are currently unable to spend in-game currency on new items or operators, and Ubisoft doesn’t know when the issue will be fixed.

Reports of the problem – which sees the game failing to complete purchases with either earned currency Renown or paid-for R6 Credits – began yesterday, and have continued since.

Reports have come in of the problem occurring on Xbox One, PS4 and PC – we’ve confirmed that the problem is ongoing on PS4.

Ubisoft representatives have confirmed that they’re looking into the problem, but a post on the Rainbow Six Siege Official Forum says, “Unfortunately we do not have an ETA at the moment.”

Hearthstone: Talking Tournaments and the Hall of Fame with Team 5

Hearthstone has set a blistering pace so far in 2018. The game has seen its first World Championship Finals outside BlizzCon, has completely revamped its esports structure, has nerfed problematic cards, has adjusted its ranked play system and has held events like Wildfest. I caught up with Lead Game Producer for Hearthstone, Yong Woo, to dig into the details of the latest announcement, which included in-game tournament support and new Hall of Fame cards, as well as to chat about the health of the game in general.

We Reveal 3 New Shadowverse: Dawnbreak, Nightedge Cards

The next Shadowverse expansion has been revealed, and it’s called Dawnbreak, Nightedge. This is the first new set of cards since Shadowverse turned everything upside down at the very start of the year by splitting its constructed game into two formats – Rotation, which only includes Basic cards and the last five expansions released, and Unlimited, in which every card ever released is legal. At the same time, the game also added an additional class – Portalcraft.

It’s an exciting time for Shadowverse – and we have three exclusive cards to reveal (further down) – so I asked Lead Game Designer Naoyuki Miyashita about both what’s coming up and how things have been going since the introduction of a new class and formats.

One Inspiring Cosplayer’s Nine Year Journey

Nine years ago today, a Florida-based cosplayer who goes by ‘Blackflame16’ decided to sew herself a costume for the first time ever.

She wrote on her Facebook page, “I can’t believe 9 years ago I was crying in front of my sewing machine, running on 2 hours of sleep trying to finish my first cosplay…”

Now, she has dozens of characters under her cosplay belt, has won multiple awards, and has spent a lot of the past 28 days sharing the work of other black cosplayers as part of February’s #28DaysOfBlackCosplay movement.
