A Young Family’s Cozy, Small Seattle Craftsman — House Tour

Name: Anna, Jason and Freddy
Location: Ballard — Seattle, Washington
Size: 600 square feet
Years lived in: 5 years, owned

After buying their Seattle home five years ago, Anna and Jason spent about two years updating elements that likely hadn’t changed in decades — all new windows, refurbished kitchen counters, new paint throughout — and the list goes on. Then when they knew their little guy Freddy was on the way, another transformation of sorts had to happen: Making room for a new baby in a one-bedroom, 600-square foot house. Anna was inspired by a house tour she’d seen on Apartment Therapy that made living in a small space with a baby look not only doable, but stylish and beautiful.

A Small Seattle Studio That Looks Much Larger Than It Is — House Tour

Name: Angel and Ben
Location: Fremont — Seattle, Washington
Size: 580 square feet
Years lived in: 1 year, renting

The first thing you notice when walking into Angel and Ben’s Fremont studio is the huge floor-to-ceiling windows at the far end of the space, letting light pour into their living area. And the giant floor plant sitting by the Juliet balcony makes it feel like the outside is spilling in, tricking the eye into adding extra square footage to this less-than-600-square-foot Fremont apartment.

Years lived in: 3 years, renting

A friend of Jordan’s once called her a professional appreciator, and that is just exactly the right title to give this creative force of a woman. She’s a freelance graphic designer, but I first knew of Jordan as a source of restaurant recommendations via her Instagram account, Local Trove (there are so many great spots in Capitol Hill that it’s tough to keep track — it’s important to have sources on the inside). Soon, I came to think of her as a source for great shops, unique art, interesting people, and inspiration.

When Hayley Francis set out in search of her dream home in Seattle during the summer of 2015, she did so toting a wishlist of charming must-haves: checkerboard black and white tile floors in the kitchen, hardwoods throughout, and a classic Craftsman style. And, in the midst of a rapidly rising and highly competitive housing market, she was lucky enough to land a house in Seattle’s desirable Roosevelt neighborhood that checked off all of the boxes on her list— and then some!
