Quiz: Can You Match the Bathroom to the Decade?

Ah the vintage bathroom: it’s either loved to the point that tears are shed upon hearing that someone ripped out an authentic 1950s space (the original tiles — nooo!!), or loathed so much that it’s the first thing someone renovates upon moving into a fixer upper (white subway tiles, here I come!). Whichever side you fall on—as there doesn’t appear to be a limbo between those two stances—you’re still likely to have fun making your best guesses in today’s quiz featuring bathrooms from the ’40s to the ’80s. “Mamie pink ” tiles, wall-to-wall shag carpeting (yes…in the bathroom), embroidered dividing walls…can you match the bathroom to the decade? Share your results in the comments below!

Guess the Decade Decor Quiz: Kitchens from the ’30s to ’80s

Trends in home decor can be short lived. Your typical en vogue item will be passé within a year or three (sometimes, even within months), but kitchens are a bit of an exception. Hardwired to a home, swapping out the style of your kitchen takes a much firmer commitment and, as a result, the aesthetics are slower to evolve. That being said, a 1950s kitchen looked like a 1950s kitchen for the majority of the decade and sometimes into the next. The question is, can you match the decade to the kitchen? Some are pretty easy (hey, we like to hand out a few freebies) but others are tricky. Ready to test your design eye?

Guess the Decade Decor Quiz: Living Rooms of the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s

Most decades have a signature style (both in fashion and interior design), but that doesn’t always mean a room follows that aesthetic to a T. At times, it can be tricky to date a space just by looking at a photo, though there are usually telltale signs here and there. What’s that you say? You could spot a 1960s living room with one eye closed? We encourage you to put those eagle eyes to the test. All the spaces here are either from the 1950s, ’60s or ’70s. Read, set, guess!

Test Your Shopping Savvy: Can You Spot the Steal?

Many moons ago, it was quite easy to spot the difference (at least from afar) between high-end furniture and decor, and less-quality “bargain” pieces, but today? Not so much. Pick up any shelter magazine and you’re likely to see plenty of homes with a mix of high and low, IKEA and 1stdibs. In my own home, my Crate & Barrel sofa (which was a splurge for me!) sits next to a side table from Target I picked up on sale for less than $30. But design has become so much better on the lower end of the market that it can be really hard to tell.

With that in mind, I put together this fast and fun quiz to test your eye. Can you tell which is the splurge and which is the steal? Warning: it’s not as easy as you might think!
