Before & After: A Big, Blank Backyard Gets Decked Out With a Deck (and Much More)

Bethany lived through one of the in-the-middle-of-a-huge-project-fears that keeps renovators up at night, one of her contractors ghosted on her! Ever the intrepid and resilient DIYer she spent the time scouring for deals on patio furniture, planning even more DIY projects and finding folks who could actually come through on the project. The result is a backyard that makes the most of a generous amount of space, creating a very chill and welcoming vibe.

Little Hidden Luxuries: Secret Outdoor Spaces in the City

One of the things I love most about living in New York is catching little glimpses of outdoor spaces — somebody’s patio or rooftop garden, little pockets of green within the city. Of course gardens are always lovely, but these city gardens seem especially precious because they are so rare, and especially verdant and inviting compared with the noise and bustle of the city. I’ve hunted down blah beautiful city outdoor spaces, so whether you live in New York or not, and whether you have an outdoor space or not, you can experience this feeling, too.

Perfectly Pocket-Sized Pools for Small Outdoor Spaces

Especially on summer days like these, when it’s about a million degrees out, a pool is a nice thing to have. But, you may be thinking, my backyard is not big enough for a pool. Or maybe you have the space but you’re not totally keen on a pool taking up your entire backyard, because you want to be able to do other things there, too. But I am here to tell you that even if your backyard tends towards the teeny side, you can still have a pool. When it comes to pools, bigger isn’t always better. Sure, you may not be able to train for the Olympics, but you’ll be able to submerge yourself and drink a cold one on a hot summer day — and isn’t that what pools are for?

Before & After: An Old Patio is Transformed into a Chic Outdoor Room

Riddle me this: why would someone buy a house on a lake and then grow a bunch of shrubs to block the view of the lake? We may never know the answer to that particular question, but we do know that Ashley’s backyard makeover not only restored the view but made the space infinitely more stylish and safe.

How I Finally Added Some Much-Needed Privacy to My Exposed Backyard — Apartment Therapy Original Makeover

I live in a city, which means my backyard isn’t a quiet, outdoor oasis populated by trees and wildlife — where the only sound is the wind and maybe some crickets. Instead I’m surrounded by cell phone conversations, kids whooping it up while waiting for the school bus, and tons and tons of barking dogs. While I love living here, sometimes it would just be so nice to feel like I’m the only person in the world. When I recently did a whole backyard makeover , one of the major goals was creating sweet, blissful privacy.
