Before & After: We Love This No-Reno-Required Rental Kitchen Makeover

This is an intriguing transformation, because the only difference between the before and after is the decorating. No remodeling, no renovation, no repainting or replacing anything, and yet the results are incredibly dramatic. So inspiring, especially to all of us with neither power tools nor the skills to wield them.

Before and After: A Three-Week $500 Kitchen Facelift

The materials in this kitchen appear to all be of high quality — stainless steel, pretty wood cabinets and floors, granite countertop—but I can also understand why reader Devann referred to this kitchen as “bland brown-on-brown-on-brown.” Sometimes even the most beautiful finishes need contrast in order to shine!

A Fail-Proof Formula for an $8,000 Kitchen Remodel

Say you want a new look in your kitchen. And you have a budget of $8,000. This may seem like a lot of money (and Trulia tells us it’s what the average person wants to spend), but in the world of kitchen remodels it’s definitely on the low end of the scale. (Intrepid remodelers Claire and Jeffrey, who shared their kitchen renovation with us, finished the whole thing for just $8,720, but that involved a lot of budget choices and a whole lot of DIYing.) And you can brush crumbs directly into the sink, which is nice.

Before & After: This Miami Kitchen Is Now Packed With Storage

This project was a full gut renovation of a two-bed, three-bath penthouse apartment in Miami. The living and dining area were already large and spacious, and changes were largely cosmetic, but the kitchen was small and the ceiling was especially low. It, most of all, needed a complete redesign.

Before & After: A Dark Galley Kitchen Sees The Light

Lindsay and Tim’s New York apartment had a lot going for it: 9 foot ceilings, windows on three sides, a plum location on Central Park West, and a very spacious (for New York) footprint of 1,500 square feet. The layout, however, left a little bit to be desired. The main area was split between a living room and a rather unnecessarily large dining room, while the kitchen was completely separated from the living space. In planning their renovation, Lindsay and Tim envisioned a new look for their kitchen — but they also wanted a space that would work better for their needs, too.
