A Pop Art-Filled Loft in Portland’s Pearl District — House Call

Name: Myisha and Armon Moore
Location: Pearl District — Portland, Oregon
Size: 996 square feet
Years lived in: 2 years, renting

Our home is a blend of both of our personalities. Armon is a Creative Director and I ( Myisha) am a Digital Brand Manager. Armon loves to play with color and I love storytelling through design. Pop art definitely speaks to us both; it’s fun, whimsical and most importantly, it provides a feeling of sunshine/brightness to the grey skies of Portland, Oregon.

An Industrial Eclectic Bachelor Pad in Texas — House Call

Name: Matthew Minor
Location: Fort Worth, TX
Size: 895 square feet
Years lived in: 3 years, renting

I moved to Fort Worth, my hometown, after 10 years in NYC. To make a leap this big, I needed to be excited about my home. When I was in Texas for Easter, my mom and I were driving and I saw what looked like a warehouse being advertised as lofts. After seeing inside, I knew where I was going to live.

A Studio Apartment Goes from Fine to Fabulous Thanks to a Faux Wall — House Call

Name: Jackie Barth
Location: New York City
Size: 466 square feet
Years lived in: 1 year, renting

One of the biggest bummers about living in a studio apartment is the whole “everything’s in one room” vibe. If you don’t love the idea of being able to see your bed from your couch (or are looking for some extra privacy in your small space) you’ll find inspiration in this NYC rental studio. Jackie and her father used wardrobe doors (similar to these IKEA ones ) to DIY a “faux” wall to create a separation between the living space and the bedroom space.

A Sunny Micro Studio in Georgia — House Call

Name: Kelly Jackson
Location: Atlanta, Georgia
Size: 300 square feet

“We bought this Eastlake-style Victorian home almost a year ago, right after we had a newborn baby (our second child, daughter Lucy),” writes Kelly Jackson. “The whole house needed major renovations, but my husband, who is a realtor, convinced me that despite this being the WORST time ever to take on a major reno and uproot our whole family, that this was an amazing investment. I listened (begrudgingly) as he convinced me that we could convert the back of the home into two rental units/Airbnbs that could also function as MIL’s when our family was in town.”

A DC Condo is a Cozy “Little House in the Sky” — House Call

Jenna and her husband Mike moved into their Washington, DC condo right after their wedding. “We fell in love with it the minute we walked in because of the soaring ceilings, natural light, and open feel. We call it our little house in the sky and designed it to feel like a home. Our goal was to make it warm, comfortable, and welcoming. We did this by adding light through a chandelier and pendants, mixing vibrant patterns with neutral colors, and incorporating soft fabrics from our bedding to our curtains.”

A Colorful Canadian Home Full of Flowers & Art — House Call

Floral designer, interior designer and talented painter Tanya List shares this home with her husband Ry and craft-loving daughter Reid. “We moved from Toronto to Muskoka about four years ago. [Toronto] was lovely, but once we had Reid I craved moving home to my hometown of Muskoka. It’s amazing here with lots of trees, over 300 lakes, and tons of room for a little kiddo to run around.”

A Teeny But Impressively Organized Studio Apartment — House Call

“When I decided I was ready to live on my own after years of living with roommates, I needed a place where I could continue to have dinner parties and space for guests to feel comfortable — but finding that at an affordable price point in San Franciso is challenging,” writes Chelsea Drenick. “I work as a structural engineer, and have an eye for space planning, and decided to hunt for a studio apartment where I could make a real separation between a sleeping space and an entertaining space. When I saw this place, measured the closet, and determined my bed could fit in it, I knew it was perfect. Even though I live in a studio, I can have several friends over without them ever feeling like they are in my bedroom, and my small couch pulls out into a bed so I can even host an overnight guest.”

A Small Southwestern Modern Studio in Downtown Oklahoma City — House Call

“I’ve been into interior design for awhile and living in a studio has been a fun challenge,” writes Lyndsey, who shares this small studio apartment with her rescue dog Tux. “A lot of people couldn’t handle living in one large room, but Tux and I seem to make it work! Leaving out room dividers makes the space more open and bright but I have to be mindful about anything I bring in the space. If it isn’t useful or beautiful, its got to go!”

A Cool California Modern Boho Abode — House Call

“My husband and I bought our house when I was pregnant with our first-born nine years ago. It was a foreclosure and previously owned by someone who was trying to “flip” it. We did not like the design choices he made but we loved the neighborhood and luckily, choosing to buy in Venice, California has been a great investment,” writes blogger and designer Kristin Dion . “Over time, we have made several improvements. We replaced all the doors, added hardwood floors in the bedrooms, remodeled the kitchen, added bi-fold doors and a deck off the kitchen/dining area and built-ins in the family and living rooms. Our next project is the master bathroom!”

A Former Artists’ Loft in SoHo Is Utterly Enviable — House Call

“When it came to finding a place for myself, I knew I wanted something distinctly New York, and it’s hard to find something more New York than SoHo’s cobblestone streets and cast-iron façades,” wrote Marc Fichera , the Marketing Director for a top residential real estate team. “The oversized windows and neat view overlooking the historic buildings across the street really sold me on the space.
