The Sofa Color That Works With (Just About) Any Decor

The sofa is arguably the most important piece of furniture in your home (based solely on the amount of time you spend on it). It’s where you binge watch episodes of Broad City and Game of Thrones; where you collapse after a long day of work; and where you curl up with a good book on an obligation-free weekend. And while we’re all for a statement piece with explosive pattern or designs, there’s one color in particular we think works in just about every room (not to mention, it’s probably been the most popular hue for upholstery in the last few years): blue. If you’re looking to shake up your neutral tendencies, consider one of these nine picks (starting at just over $600).

Coffee Table or Ottoman? Both! 12 Double Duty Hybrids to Consider — Annual Guide 2017

Here’s why I propose everyone have at least one cocktail ottoman in their lifetime (and why I should take my own advice): Every night, I sit down on my sofa and I put my feet up on my wood coffee table. It’s hard as a rock, and it certainly does not offer a comfy spot to cushion my heels which leads me to clear the table top to make room for a pillow so I can finally be comfortable. Just imagine if I were to instead buy a coffee table that is also an ottoman and therefore already has a plush, pillowy surface for me to kick back, relax, and rest my feet? And it can serve as additional seating when I need it to? Win-win. (Contrary to popular belief, your guests shouldn’t sit on your coffee table. But they can sit on your coffee table if it’s also an ottoman.) Here are a few top contenders if you’re in search of a cocktail ottoman like I am.

Test Your Shopping Savvy: Can You Spot the Steal?

Many moons ago, it was quite easy to spot the difference (at least from afar) between high-end furniture and decor, and less-quality “bargain” pieces, but today? Not so much. Pick up any shelter magazine and you’re likely to see plenty of homes with a mix of high and low, IKEA and 1stdibs. In my own home, my Crate & Barrel sofa (which was a splurge for me!) sits next to a side table from Target I picked up on sale for less than $30. But design has become so much better on the lower end of the market that it can be really hard to tell.

With that in mind, I put together this fast and fun quiz to test your eye. Can you tell which is the splurge and which is the steal? Warning: it’s not as easy as you might think!
