This Company is Changing the Way We Look at the Past — Apartment Therapy Marketplace

You know what they say: what’s old is new again. But far too often, what’s considered vintage or antique is just a shoddy replica of the real deal. Spend 5 minutes in a clothing store to see 1970’s band shirts printed on a thin tee, or take a seat in an uncomfortable Eames chair knockoff, and you’ll know what I mean. Since genuine old-school finds can be hard to find (or insanely expensive), what do you do when you want to honor the past in an authentic way? Spectrachrome Prints ‘ historical art collection is here to help.

Daily Marketplace Deals: Discounted and Discontinued Ikea — Apartment Therapy Marketplace

An industrial chic metal wardrobe by French designer Matali Crasset for Ikea, available for $80 on Marketplace.

(Image credit: Apartment Therapy Marketplace )

We spend our days scouring the Marketplace for gems you can’t find anywhere else. Buy and sell with over 200,000 neighbors who love quality home furnishings and good design.

When I moved to New York City over 10 years ago, the closest Ikea was in New Jersey. Rather than trek across state lines, I combed through Craigslist listings for Ikea furniture I could buy secondhand. No matter where you live, there’s usually an Ikea store within a couple hours drive and if not, you can now buy it from Amazon . Yet, nothing beats the discounted prices for hand-me-downs from the Swedish maker. The best part of shopping for used Ikea—aside from not dealing with the headache of assembling it yourself—is you can find discontinued colors, styles and designs no longer available in the retail shop.

We spend our days scouring the Marketplace for gems you can’t find anywhere else. Buy and sell with over 200,000 neighbors who love quality home furnishings and good design.

When you’re shopping for storage, you want someone who knows how to maximize space, a revisionist if you will. Take for example Wes of Artspace Industrial . He repurposes vintage steel lockers, file cabinets and other items into unique, one of a kind furnishings all from his workshop in update New York. The locker storage console pictured above was built using vintage steel lockers. The original paint was first stripped before Wes and his team hand-brushed a wire finish and sealed it with automotive acrylic enamel. All this to create an industrial piece that’s equally artful and functional.
