You saw a sneak peek of Tanya’s beautiful home in a house call last year, and now you can get a longer look and read more about her home. Tanya writes: We moved from Toronto to Muskoka about four years ago. The city was lovely, but once we had Reid, I craved moving home to my hometown of Muskoka. It’s amazing here with lots of trees, over 300 lakes, and tons of room for a little kiddo to run around.

Deepali and Naveen began their life together in a traditionally Indian way — through an arranged marriage. She had just finished studying fashion design in India at NIFT, and moved to Oregon to join Naveen who works at Intel. She didn’t know anyone and wasn’t working, so she started making things: “I was dying of boredom, I had to do something…I was making artwork and upholstering furniture pieces. I had some friends in the silk business, and I got silk samples from them, and started making pillows and curtains. One thing led to another, and then I opened my shop.”

I find it incredibly inspiring when people shirk off their worldly possessions, say no to the 9 to 5, and trade a rent check for a home on wheels. And while the breathtaking natural landscapes you can see behind these vans, Airstreams and trailers on Instagram are stunning, it’s fairly unusual when the interior of a mobile home is elevated beyond just functional. Rarer still when your home is only a few square feet and lacks a foundation.

The very essence of a bohemian lifestyle tends to go pretty firmly against big-brand commercialism, but if you’re more about the style and less about the ideals—and also looking for some cheap(ish) ways to round out your aesthetic—IKEA is, quite surprisingly, a great place to hunt. The brand’s minimal Swedish vibes might make you think eclectic decor is not to be found in the blue-and-yellow corridors of the retailer, but that’s where you’d be wrong. We picked out our top 21 home items to get the boho look at home, for less.

Because they have an almost unheard of amount of sunlight streaming in, Jean and Jeff have stuffed their one-bedroom loft apartment on the Lower East Side with plants (supported with a great collection of funky vintage finds). Location: Treme — New Orleans, Louisiana
Size: 650 square feet

Anne’s romance with New Orleans began three years ago during a visit for Jazz Fest, a familiar story here in the Crescent City. The unique architecture, lush landscape, and celebratory way-of-life felt just right for this Iowa-born bon vivant. It wasn’t long before she sold her house in Westchester, New York; put most of her possessions in storage; and settled into a cozy one-bedroom rental close to the French Quarter. “I drank this magical city’s Kool-Aid the moment I saw those soft warm greens of the bayou sunning themselves from the airplane window,” she swoons.

Jill and her husband John are New Yorkers who left Brooklyn behind for a West Coast dream. When they first started house hunting in California, they weren’t looking for a major renovation project per se — after all they were still living on the East Coast at the time. That changed once Jill caught sight of the seventies era split-level fixer upper intended to be a broker’s flip for their agent. Set high above the street, the contemporary architecture offered huge windows perfect for taking in the treetop views of the oaks and surrounding Mission Canyon neighborhood of Santa Barbara. Jill knew managing a renovation from across the country was not going to be easy, but she also knew it would be worth it.
