Horticulture is a good way to make your yard a source of fresh fruits and vegetables. You can make things like salads with freshly picked tomatoes right from your garden, or if you are advanced enough you can even make salads that are completely from your own garden. Let this article guide you to greater gardening success.

Choose higher yield plant varieties. Hybrids are usually hardier in terms of disease and weather resistance, and are designed to produce more.

TIP! Use pots to start your plants, then transfer them to a garden when they become seedlings. This can give your seedlings the advantage they need to survive and reach adulthood.

If you want your garden to sport flowers in the spring as well as summer, plant bulbs. Bulbs are generally very simple to grow and hearty, as well; they will continue to grow for years. Find out which flowers will bloom when and then plant a variety, so that you can have fresh blooms all the way through the spring and summer!

Make sure that your deciduous shrubs are protected. If you’ve got tender shrubs which are potted, you need to protect them from cold weather. Tie together the tops, and then use a sheet or blanket to cover the wigwam loosely. This will work better than wrapping your plant with plastic, because air can still circulate, which will help to prevent rotting.

Aerate and dry your plants each day. Excess moisture on a plant will invite unwanted parasites or diseases to the plant. Fungi commonly afflict a number of plants. Fungus can be handled with sprays specifically formulated for fungi control, but you must treat the area with spray before seeing any kind of problems.

TIP! Use the correct type of soil for best results. Depending on what type of plants you have, your soil may or may not be adapted.

Use fertilizer for maximum planting success. One type of fertilizer that really helps plants grow is manure, but be sure to utilize a type that is commercially composted to reduce the chances of pathogens. Of all the fertilizing options available, it doesn’t really matter which one you choose as long as you use something.

Try growing your peas indoors for the first couple months. Planting them inside helps the seeds germinate better. You will also have hardy seedlings that will be able to resist disease and pests much better. When these pea plants are sturdy, you can place them outside in your garden.

It’s crucial for you to protect knees when doing horticulture work. Most people can’t bend for long periods while standing. You can kneel instead to help keep your back relaxed while tending to your plants. For extra comfort, purchase a knee pad for use as a cushion between your knees and the ground.

TIP! Soak seeds overnight, preferably in a cool, dark place. Put a few seeds in a small container and fill it near to the top with water.

Get the most value from your property. Improving your landscape is one of the best ways to get a high return from your house. Investing in plants can raise the value of your property by 20%, or sometimes even more. Be sure to choose plants that will thrive in your yard, taking into account soil and climate conditions.

As was mentioned at the start of this article the beginning, a garden is a wonderful way to have your own fresh fruit, veggies and herbs at home. Making use of your fruits and veggies in your meals that you create will make you proud. Use the advice in this article to optimize your efforts in the garden and yield amazing results.
