Organic horticulture is capable of not only bringing about relaxation, but also headaches as well. These tips should help you to become a better organic gardener.

Do not improperly lay your new sod. You will need to prepare your lawn soil before laying the sod. Weeds should be removed, and you should break up the soil into a tilth. Using a light but firm touch, compact the soil until it is flat. Thoroughly moisten the soil. Lay the sod down in alternated rows, keeping the joints set off from one another. You want the sod to end up as a flat and even surface. If there are any gaps in between the sod pieces, then you can fill these in with some soil. For the best results, you need to water the sod every day for a two week period. After this time the sod will have rooted into the soil and can be now walked on.

TIP! Your plants will respond better to gradual changes of environment. Put them out in the sun for approximately one to two hours on the very first day.

Turn your tool handles into convenient rulers. You can use shovels or rakes as measuring sticks. Place the handles on the floor, then set a measuring tape alongside them. Then, with a permanent marker, you want to label distances. Now, every time you work in your garden, you are going to have a powerful ruler at the touch of your fingertips.

Brighten up your flower beds with annuals and biennials. Fast growing biennials and annuals can enliven a flower bed while letting you change up the look each season and year. They are useful for filling gaps in between shrubs and perennials in sunny areas. There are many flowers you can plant in these gaps. Try marigolds, petunias or sunflowers for a brighter garden.

All soil is not the same. You need to check the soil to make sure it’s the best for what you’re planting. You can do a soil sample analysis for an affordable fee and then know what you need to properly treat your soil with so you can grow the best plants. Several Cooperative Extension locations offer this service, and it’s advantageous for you to know what type of soil you have, in order to avoid growing faulty crops.

TIP! Healthy soil will also assist in your battle against pests. Healthy plants are stronger and more able to resist both pests and disease.

When you’re out and about in the garden, particularly in the fall, keep an eye out for sink bugs. This insect will gladly devour your tomatoes, beans, and peppers, as well as a variety of other fruits. Decrease their presence as much as possible to avoid them wreaking havoc in your garden.

Organic Garden

As you can see, there is a lot more to organic gardening than most people think. It involves lots of work as well as patience, but it’s so worth it when you see your beautiful organic garden. The ideas presented above should help you hone your skills and reap a great harvest from your organic garden.
