Chances are you have probably heard about or seen organic foods in your local grocery store. It’s important to know which products are organic and which are not. They’re packaged differently and usually cost a lot more. This article can help you save money by growing organic produce right in your own garden.

Properly lay your sod. Be sure to get your soil prepared before you start laying the new sod. Take out any weeds, then mix up the soil into a tilth that is fine. Next, you want to make the soil compacted by applying light but firm pressure. Make sure the soil creates a flat surface. Gently sprinkle water on the soil until you are certain that it is thoroughly moistened. Lay the sod in rows, and make sure the joints do not overlap. Press the sod down firmly so that the surface is flat and even. If there are gaps remaining, fill them with a bit of soil. After two weeks of daily watering, the sod should be rooted; at this time, it is now safe to walk on it.

Flower Beds

Use biennials and annuals to beautify your flower beds. Your flower beds will look different from one season to another. They are very useful for filling in the gaps between perennials and shrubs in a sunny area. Notable biennials and annuals include marigold, sunflowers, hollyhock, petunia, and cosmos.

When partaking in horticulture activities, particularly in the autumn months, keep an eye on those stink bugs. They like to feast on all kinds of fruits, as well as peppers, tomatoes, and beans. Decrease their presence as much as possible to avoid them wreaking havoc in your garden.

Coffee Grounds

One way to correct your soil’s alkalinity is by amending your soil with used coffee grounds. Coffee grounds add acidity to the soil and are very cheap. The plants will be healthier, leading to more delicious home-grown veggies.

A green garden needs to begin with seeds, not plants. The environmentally conscious way to start a new garden is to start with seeds. Most nurseries use a lot of plastic that is not recycled. If you want to buy plants, find a nurseries that uses organic methods or grow your plants from seeds.

TIP! Before you plant a garden you should plan it out. This way, when the sprouts start shooting up, you can recall where you planted each plant.

You should think about planting evergreens that yield berries in your garden. This will keep your garden colorful, even during those months when other plants are not growing. A few of the most vivid plants in winter are American Holly, Winterberry, Snowberry and Cranberrybush.

Growing your garden at home might not be the most convenient thing for you, but you will save a lot of money and always have the confidence that what you’re eating and feeding your family is as fresh and as healthy as possible. Use the tips you’ve learned here and get started on your garden today.
