Organic gardening can really be an intelligent move for having a healthier diet. You will have to put in some time and energy to be successful in this venture, however. This can leave you wondering where to start when it comes to organic horticulture.

Find some plants that will give you a higher yield. A hybrid designed for your weather, and resistant to local diseases, will give a better yield than non-hybrids.

TIP! Lay sod properly. Before laying sod, you have to make sure the soil is accurately prepared.

Plant vines like ivy to cover fences and dividing walls. Climbing foliage is a great way to disguise unsightly features on your property, sometimes in the span of just one season. They can grow through shrubs and trees, or even cover an arbor. Some climbers you plant will have to be tied off and supported, but others have no problem attaching themselves to any surface using their tendrils or twining stems A few good choices are climbing roses, wisteria, jasmine, honeysuckle and clematis.

Carbon Dioxide

Carbon dioxide, or CO2, is essential to the growth of plants because of its role in photosynthesis. A higher level of CO2 will help plants grow better. A greenhouse will provide plants with an environment rich in carbon dioxide. For the best growing conditions you should keep the CO2 levels high.

TIP! Always take the time to get the weeds out of your garden. Weeds can turn a thriving garden into a total wasteland.

If you are planning on growing peas, begin the plantings inside instead of outside. By initially planting them indoors, the seeds tend to germinate better. Your seedlings will be stronger, and this will mean they can withstand diseases and bug attacks. When these pea plants are sturdy, you can place them outside in your garden.

Consider planting evergreens in your garden that produce berries. This will aid in giving your garden great color, even during the winter when other plants have lost their colors. There is quite a variety of plants that will give your garden a splash of color during winter, including the American Cranberrybush, American Holly, Common Snowberry or Winterberry.

Water your garden wisely. A soaker hose can save valuable time by watering all of your plants simultaneously, removing the need for hauling a watering can or hose around to each plant. To protect your plants, keep the flow on the soaker down. Just use it on your foliage for a few hours.

TIP! When it’s autumn, it’s time to start planting all of your fall edibles. Instead of using regular clay pots this year for planting lettuce and kale, try a pumpkin container instead! Hollow out the pumpkin and spray with Wilt-Pruf to prevent rot.

Protect yourself from sun overexposure while horticulture by wearing the proper clothing. Try wearing a large sunhat and sunglasses to protect your face and eyes, and use sunscreen on any exposed skin. Protecting yourself from harmful UV rays means you are less likely to get sunburned or suffer skin cancer later in life.

As this article has shown, to be successful at organic gardening you must do your homework and put forth a bit of effort. It is very true, as well, that to see results, you must stick with it. If you keep all these suggestions in mind, you have taken the right steps towards becoming a successful organic gardener.
