Meticulous attention to your garden is one of the primary tenets of the green horticulture movement. To do so, your smart organic horticulture skills are going to come in handy. This advice will help you create happier, healthier and tastier produce. Follow the tips provided for a successful organic garden.

Starting seedlings in pots before planting in your garden is a smart idea. They are more likely to survive the transition to adulthood with this method. In addition, it offers you a smaller time frame between plantings. The seedlings are reading for planting immediately after you remove older plants.

TIP! It is important to do your homework so you choose plants that produce higher yields. Traditional strains are often out-performed by hybrids that have been bred for cold tolerance or disease resistance.

Plant perennials that are slug-proof. If slugs or snails find their favorite perennials in your garden, they’ll snack all night. When you wake up in the morning, there will be very little left of your plants. Certain perennials that don’t have tough leaves are especially tasty to snails and slugs. Perennials that have thick, furry leaves and unpleasant tastes are less likely to attract slugs and snails. Some of examples of these are achillea, heuchera, campanula, helleborus, and euphorbia.

Choose the right soil for best results. Fertilizer can enrich the soil to make it more viable. You can simply use one type of soil to make an artificial area.

Prepare your seeds by soaking them in a dark environment. Soak the seeds by placing them in a container where they are covered with water. This way, your seeds are well-hydrated and can start growing with a head start. Your seeds will then have the best chance possible to survive to maturity.

TIP! Use pots to start your plants, then transfer them to a garden when they become seedlings. By allowing them to sprout first, you are increasing the odds of a seedling reaching maturity.

Consider growing wheat grass or cat grass near the plants your cat enjoys eating. Additionally, use your cat’s keen sense of smell to your advantage. Citrus fruit peels and mothballs both smell horrible to cats, so put them on the soil near the plants your cat likes to eat.

For an unusual, but effective, organic solution to weeding young plants, try “boiling” the weeds away. Boiling water is a very safe alternative to other potent herbicides. Douse the weeds with this pot, just avoid the nearby plants. What this does it essentially kill the weeds by damaging their roots. The result is that those weeds are unlikely to regrow.

Horticulture is a great way to relax. There are countless ways that people find to relax. Gardening is a great way to just kick back, chill out, and enjoy your time with nature. Gardening only requires a small investment and you will get so much more out of it. The best part of it is not the plants themselves, but the stillness achieved by tending to them.

TIP! When fall has arrived, it is time to plant the edibles for the autumn. This year, instead of using your regular clay pots to plant your kale and lettuce, use a pumpkin as the container instead! Simply carve open the top of a pumpkin so you can remove the innards, and then spray inside and out with something like Wilt-Pruf to prevent pumpkin rotting.

The tips above have shown you that there is a noticeable difference in the quality of produce produced by organic gardening. An organic garden is a ton of work to make successful but well worth the effort.
