Choose perennials that slugs are not attracted to. Creatures like snails or slugs can destroy a plant in a single night. These pests are especially attracted to tender sprouts and to delicate, soft leaves. Perennials that are unappetizing in taste, or that have hardened and hairy leaves, are not a favorite of slugs or snails. Selecting an unappetizing perennial, such as campanula or heuchera, will help stop them from being eaten.

TIP! When fall has arrived, it is time to plant the edibles for the autumn. If you’d like to change things up a bit this season, put away your standard clay pots and plant your lettuce and kale inside of a pumpkin instead! Slice a hole around the stem, and pull the pumpkin top out.

When winter arrives, transfer some plants into the house to save them. Find out which plants will be able to thrive despite the transplanting and different indoor conditions. Remember to be gentle when digging up your plants; carefully dig away from the roots and gently place the plant into a container.

The first thing you should do when planning a garden is test the soil. You can do a soil sample analysis for an affordable fee and then know what you need to properly treat your soil with so you can grow the best plants. The cost of the analysis will be easily offset by the benefits of a healthy and vibrant crop.

Your vegetable garden should get at least six hours of sun daily. Most vegetables need that much sun to grow rapidly and successfully. Some flowers also have the same needs.

Knee Pads

If your plants do not grown very tall, try buying some knee pads used for gardening. Long hours tending your garden can leave your knees sore and achy. Buy yourself a pair of knee pads to use in the garden to cushion and protect your knees.

It is best to aerate and dry your plants daily. Moisture on the surfaces of your plants is an invitation to pests and illness. Fungi is very common. Fungicidal spray treatments can contain fungi, but spraying prior to problems even developing in the first place is the best way to go about it.

TIP! To grow peas, try growing them indoors first, instead of outside. If you were to plant them inside first, the seeds should germinate better.

Place a few inches of organically based mulch around your vegetable plants. The organic mulch will keep moisture in the soil for a little longer. It also helps prevent weeds from growing. This can save you a lot of time and effort in pulling out the weeds.
