If you’re not already familiar with the One Room Challenge, prepare to spend the next few hours scrolling before-and-afters. Here’s how the challenge works: The blog Calling It Home invites 20 design bloggers (with dozens of others joining in just for fun) to participate in a challenge to transform one room over the course of six weeks. Updates are provided every Wednesday so that the design-lovers of the internet can watch the progress in action.

To celebrate this season of the One Room Challenge, which kicked off on April 5th, we’re taking a look back at three simple, renovation-free bathroom makeovers we can’t stop thinking about from challenges past.

#3: Opposites Attract

The Before: While in the process of revamping her entire house, Lauren from Manor Court decided to join in on the One Room Challenge in hopes that the six-week deadline would push her to complete an entire room quickly. At the start of the challenge, Lauren’s bathroom looked pretty bland, with all-white walls and tiles offering a blank slate for design.

The Big Reveal: Dark navy blue paint on the upper half of the walls makes the room look chic, while bringing contrast to Manor Court‘s formerly one-note space. Subtle touches of gold on the cabinet knobs, curtain rod and picture frames are an easy way to add luxurious without spending a ton of money.

#2: The Power of Paint

The Before: While the “before” of this bathroom from Rachel Dunham Design isn’t exactly a nightmare, dark wood as far as the eye can see dates the space.

The Big Reveal: It’s incredible how dramatic the difference is, when one of the only major changes to the room was painting the cabinets a forest green and making the upper walls white. Rachel Dunham Design has truly tapped into the transformative power of paint.

#1: The Gray-and-Copper Palace

The Before: Outdated wooden cabinets and beige walls made this bathroom “blah.” Karisa from the blog Petite Modern Life had a challenge ahead of her, but luckily, this wan’t her first time taking on the One Room Challenge. We’ve featured her smart pull-down workspace created for a previous challenge; check it out here.

The Big Reveal: Believe it or not, besides the floor, most of the other changes to this bathroom are cosmetic and didn’t call for any major remodeling. That gorgeous vanity? It’s actually the vanity from the “before” image, but Karisa painted it and replaced the hardware (I don’t blame you if you want to scroll up to confirm this). The mirror is the same as above, but with a wooden frame added. Visit Petite Modern Life to see all of the tiny changes that factored into this dramatic transformation.
