Have you noticed that the grass literally seems greener on your fence’s other side? You probably want to know if your neighbor just has a green thumb, or a more practical method to keep his garden in such good shape. Truth be told, there is no real secret to creating a gorgeous garden. All you need is the knowledge about how to care for your plants the right way. You can start to increase your gardening knowledge today by reading the information below.

Plant seeds in pots that have a rich soil to give them a strong start. This boosts the chance that the plants can survive to adulthood. It also lets you have tighter control over the planting periods in your garden. The seedlings are reading for planting immediately after you remove older plants.

TIP! Your plants will respond better to gradual changes of environment. When starting the transition, leave the plants in the sun for just 1-2 hours.

Create useful rulers from your tool handles. Tools with long handles, such as rakes, hoes, and shovels can be converted into handy measuring sticks. Lay the handles of said tools on the ground where it is flat and there is no interference, such as gravel, and stretch a measuring tape along one side. It’s a good idea to label distances with a permanent marker. When you decide to work in the garden again, you will now have a ruler at your disposal.

Plants need to take in CO2 to grow and thrive. Plants will not thrive if they don’t have an adequate amount of CO2. A greenhouse can concentrate the levels of CO2. In this environment, the CO2 levels are kept high so the plants can experience optimal growing conditions.

During fall, you should plant cold weather vegetables. A pumpkin makes a great container, and costs less than a clay pot. Slice a hole around the stem, and pull the pumpkin top out. Then remove the guts and use Wilt-Pruf to cover the insides and prevent rot. Now you can use the pumpkin as a planter.

TIP! Select plant types that will bring a higher profits and yield. Traditional strains are often out-performed by hybrids that have been bred for cold tolerance or disease resistance.

Grow some wheat grass or cat grass next to the plants your cat seems to prefer. You may also place something offensively smelly atop the soil, like citrus peel or mothballs.

Vegetable plants should be planted where they can benefit from a minimum of six hours of sunlight every day. Most vegetables need that much sun to grow rapidly and successfully. Some flowers are especially sun-loving as well.

If your soil has high alkaline amounts, mix some coffee grounds into it. This is an easy and inexpensive solution to increase the acid content back into the soil. This will allow your vegetables and greenery to really thrive.

TIP! Brighten up your flower beds with annuals and biennials. Fast-growing annuals and biennials can brighten up a flower bed, and allow you to change the look from season to season and year to year.

Draw up a garden plan before you plant the first seed. This way, you will remember the places you planted your seeds when they start sprouting. This is important, because different plants require different care.

As you can see, the suggestions here are easy to follow and rather simple to implement. All it takes is applying what you have learned after boning up on some basic techniques. Focus on the reaction of the plants to your methods. If one thing doesn’t work, try another. Have some patience, and soon you will have a garden that makes your entire neighborhood jealous.
