A Modern & Rustic Family Home in Michigan — House Tour

Name: Lauren Wilson
Location: Farmington Hills, Michigan
Size: 1,850 square feet
Years lived in: 5 years, owned

Interior designer — and mom to three kids — Lauren Wilson says it’s hard to believe that she’s been in her family home for five years. When she moved in, she envisioned an open space that she and her husband could create and build on their own. However, the space was anything but the open-concept she dreamed about. “We knew that we had a long road ahead, but went through with it anyways,” she says. She knew that they would have to bust through three rooms to create the big open space they desired. For Lauren, it was necessary for the growing family.

A Renovated Industrial Modern Chicago Condo — House Tour

Name: Darcy Young & Mike Putizger with dog Moose
Location: West Town — Chicago, Illinois
Size: 1,000 square feet
Years lived in: 2 years, owned

When Darcy and Mike arrived at a building in the West Town neighborhood of Chicago for a condo showing two years ago, another unit owner in the building happened to be moving out at the same time. The door was open and they popped their heads in. It had high ceilings, an unbeatable view from the rooftop deck, and a dedicated space for the office…but it needed a ton of work. Far more inspired by this wild card option than the cookie-cutter condos they had toured — though in a rough shape — they turned to each other in the car ride home and immediately started scheming ways to fix up the space.
