Beyond McMansions: Rethinking the Double Sink — Beyond McMansions: Rethinking the Double Sink

You might associate a double-sink with huge McMansion-style houses. (After all, you need the spoils of excess square footage to have one.) But, if you’re lucky to have the space, you don’t have to be limited to the cherry-and-granite vanity units that are usually spotted in such dwellings.

A Small Space Squeezes in a Bathroom & Laundry Room Beautifully — Professional Project

Project by: Clara Jung of Banner Day Consulting
Location: Oakland, California

Clara’s clients had a weird little nook in their home that sat unused, just begging for something to do. They decided not to let limits on space limit their dreams, so they decided to put both a bathroom and a laundry into the same space, divided by a pocket door, and we’re screaming for joy. Not only does the remodel add functionality, it’s easy on the eyes as well. Gorgeous tile and warm wood pack a lot of character into the room, while the color scheme keeps things feeling light and breezy.

Before & After: A Small Suburban Bathroom Goes from Taupe to Timeless

After living in New York for 11 years, Diana Marsh was ready to move back to her home state of Michigan and design a beautiful nest. As the proprietor of the downtown Ann Arbor store Thistle and Bess , Diana stocks up and offers one-of-a-kind treasures for those seeking a luxurious lifestyle. And not surprisingly, she was looking to create a luxurious lifestyle in the 1890s house she bought . A fan of history and elegant English estates, the house’s architecture was right up her design alley. The taupe bathroom was not.

Upgrade Your Shower Style: Dress Up Your Bath with Valances, Cornices & Pelmets

(Image credit: AGK Design Studio )

Unless you’re talking about a new fabric, there usually isn’t much to talk about when it comes to shower curtains. (Though we could go on about the pros and cons of curved vs. traditional curtain rods.) However, there’s one decor element that can upgrade any shower curtain into a focal point: A valance, cornice or pelmet.

Before & After: Three Days, $800 and One New Half Bath

Half baths can be so easy to forget — home to b-team hand towels and re-gifted decorative soaps, relegated to occasional guest usage and always in the shadow of the bathrooms with things like tubs and showers. Christina decided it was time to give her half bath a little time in the spotlight, and buckled down to give it an eye-catching upgrade.

These Showers are the Next Big Thing for the Bathroom

In most bathrooms, the shower enclosure is a bit of an afterthought, just a practical solution for keeping water from spraying all over the room. But lately a different kind of shower enclosure is picking up steam — steel framed doors that make the shower a thing to be celebrated.

The Best Thing We Did To This Rental Bathroom Was (Almost) Free

It’s hard to make an old rental bathroom look new again, deep down in its bones. You’re limited to surface moves: decluttering the medicine cabinet, painting the walls, or buying a new shower curtain and towels — but those largely gloss over the real heart of darkness — the moldy corners and rusty crevices —that make your bathroom feel gross and icky. This is where a weekend shower tile refresh comes in, and it’s both transformative and cheap.

A 100% Reversible Rental Bathroom Makeover For Under $500 — Apartment Therapy Original Makeover

Joseph’s bathroom had some decent bones. The fixtures weren’t terrible or avocado green (not that there’s anything wrong with green). It had plain white tile— which you could see once you scrubbed your way past all the rust and mold. So, all and all, not a nightmare. It just needed a light makeover: getting rid of the bandaid beige, cleaning up the tile, and adding some color and warmth with a new floor, paint and decor. Ready to see what we did?

Before and After: An ’80s Bathroom Gets a Classic Update

Tasha’s twins were using a dark and outdated bathroom, complete with carpet (why was that ever considered a good idea?) and some very ’80s materials. Calling in the professionals for the major plumbing and drywall work, but doing the rest herself, Tasha created a space that can grow with her girls and remain visually appealing for years to come.
