Learn some tips to assist you in cultivating a beautiful garden for your personal enjoyment, your business or your family. Determine what you need so you don’t spend money on equipment you do not need, or on seeds that don’t work in your area.

In the cold winter months, you can salvage certain plants by bringing them into the house. Your best bet would be try to save the best or most hearty plants. Dig carefully around the roots and transfer the plants to a pot.

TIP! Clay is difficult to dig through with a shovel, as it is sticky and compact. Make your shoveling job easier by lightly coating a shovel with a layer of wax, then buffing the surface.

Fall edibles are a wonderful addition to your garden. Clay pots are boring, so replace those ordinary lettuce and kale pots with pumpkins. Cut an opening in the pumpkin and scoop the insides out. Then spray the edges and empty inside of the pumpkin with Wilt-Pruf so the pumpkin doesn’t rot. Now this is completed, it is time to get planting!

You must protect tender, deciduous shrubs. Delicate shrubs that are sitting in pots should be sheltered from the cold weather. Connect the tops, and then place a sheet over the top of the wigwam. This method is superior to covering plants in plastic, because air can freely circulate, which prevents rotting.

Using boiling water to kill weeds is both efficient and organic. Boiling water is a safe herbicide which won’t damage your garden or your body. Pour boiling water on any weeds, but be careful not to spill it on plants you want to keep. What this does it essentially kill the weeds by damaging their roots. The result is that those weeds are unlikely to regrow.

TIP! When planting perennials, seek out those that are resistant to slugs. A particularly vulnerable plant can be killed by snails and slugs overnight.

Your plants need to be kept dry, but sill receiving a good amount of air. If you have excess moisture, this can attract bugs or diseases. A fungus is one of the most important and debilitating parasites for plants. To control fungi, use a fungicide spray on the area before you notice any problems.

Don’t you hate it how fresh mint leaves take over all of your garden, even though you love them? Stunt their growth a little by planting your mint into a garden container or large pot instead. You can plant the container into the soil if you want to, but the container will restrict the roots, and make sure that the plant doesn’t run rampant in your garden.

Irises should be divided. Divide any overgrown clumps to increase your stock. If you notice a dead foliage, lift the bulb. As soon as you pick up the bulb, it’ll split into pieces. That’s okay – in fact, it’s desirable. You can replant the bulb pieces and next year you’ll have a healthy bed of new irises. Rhizomes should be divided using a knife. From the outside cut the new pieces and then get rid of the old center. Don’t plant any pieces that don’t have any strong offshoots. Replant immediately.

TIP! Try growing wheat grass or cat grass in the area of the plants your cat wants to eat. Another option is to protect your plants by lacing them with offensive entities, such as peels from citrus fruit or even moth balls from your closet.

It just requires some effort and a bit of learning on your part, and of course, a whole lot of patience. Once you see the literal fruits of your labors, the time and effort you’ve invested will seem worthwhile.
