You are committed to the idea of planting a garden that works well with the environment. It’s the perfect time to begin! The following tips and tricks will help prepare you for organic gardening success.

When laying sod, it is important that you do it correctly. Before the sod can be laid, you should prepare the soil. Get rid of weeds and tilth the soil finely. Flatten your soil and make it slightly compact. Water the soil until it is saturated. Avoid laying your sod in straight rows with all of the seams lining up. Instead, stagger the rows for a more pleasing visual effect. Make sure the sod is firmly placed to ensure a surface that is sufficiently flat and even. Also, make sure to use soil to fill the areas where there are gaps in the sod. The sod needs to be watered daily for two weeks, by which time it will be rooted and ready to walk on.

TIP! If you want flowers in spring and summer, plant bulbs in the garden. Bulbs are hearty and will continue to grow every year.

Plant a variety of annuals, biennials and perennials to keep your flower beds bright. Fast growing biennials and annuals can enliven a flower bed while letting you change up the look each season and year. They can be used to fill in gaps in your garden between the perennials or shrubs so your garden looks fuller. The most popular varieties to use include petunia, zinnia, cosmos, snapdragon, marigold, hollyhock, and sunflower.

It is important to choose the right type of soil if you want to achieve the best results. Depending on what type of plants you have, your soil may or may not be adapted. It’s also possible to make a fabricated area that contains only one type of soil.

Coffee grounds can be used to amend soils that are high in alkaline. This is a simple way to replenish your soil with acid. The right soil will make your vegetables taste better and make your flowers more vibrant and aromatic.

TIP! Grow some wheat grass or catnip for your cat to eat instead. You can put something over the soil which surrounds the plants which has a bad smell to cats to deter them.

If you are looking for an all-natural, organic way to weed your garden, consider “boiling off” the weeds. A pot full of boiling water is an effective herbicide, yet it is, chemically speaking, completely harmless. Pour the boiling water directly onto the weeds, just make sure you do not damage the nearby plants. The water will kill the weeds by destroying the roots and if poured directly on the weeds, will prevent them from growing back.

Kneeling Stool

Two items you need to invest in when working in a garden are a wheelbarrow, and a kneeling stool. Gardening can be very tough on your knees, so a kneeling stool that is ergonomic and lightweight can make things much more comfortable and enjoyable. Because gardening means transporting a lot of heavy things, a wheelbarrow will also come in handy.

TIP! To help young plants, try pouring boiling water on top of nearby weeds. Boiling water in a pot is a safe “herbicide.

You will now be better prepared as you start pursuing organic horticulture. You may have thought you were prepared before, but now you will be a veritable expert! These tips should have helped you get started growing a lovely organic garden.
